In 2001 and 2003, the GHS Music Department was chosen by the GRAMMY Foundation as being “one of the top high school music programs in the country.”
The GHS Concert Choir had the honor of performing at the MMEA Convention in 1999, the GHS Women’s Choir at the MMEA Convention in 2001, the Chamber Choir performed for the MMEA Convention in 2004, and the Concert Choir performed for the 2006 MMEA Convention. In June 2000, the GHS Concert Choir toured Italy for twelve days and in June 2002, the Glendale Concert Choir toured Hawaii. The GHS Choirs have won the “Judge’s Choice Award” at Six Flags, St. Louis, and the “Sweepstakes Award” at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. The choral students at Glendale have been selected for District, State, Regional and National Honors Choirs. In 2005, the Glendale High School Chamber Choir sang for the National American Choral Directors Convention in Los Angeles, California, and also in St. Louis, Missouri for the 2006 Southwestern Regional ACDA Convention.
Glendale’s orchestra is divided in two orchestras: the freshmen and advanced orchestra. Both orchestras receive consistent straight I scores at state competition, the only orchestra in Springfield to do so.
Glendale’s band consists of concert, jazz, and marching bands. They are called the Glendale High School Pride of the Falcon Bands. The marching band has performed in numerous bowl parades, the most recent being the Orange Bowl Parade in 2001.
The Glendale Theatre department is under the direction of Lisa Bettencourt. Glendale Theatre students are a constant talent pool for college theatre departments in Springfield, namely Missouri State University and Drury University. Numerous students from the theatre department have attended the Missouri Fine Arts Academy.
The art department is active in The Memory Project, a program where artists make portraits of orphans world wide in order to foster friendship, caring, and a sense of self-worth.
In addition to constantly playing music, acting, and painting, Glendale students sometimes have the opportunity to read, write, and solve math problems. But with such a rigorous program, students don't have much time for the fun of math problems.
